Geoadventure March 2012

Geoadventure March 2012

A mad dash to Jasper National Park for some sTuRgi REST&RELAXATION. Our truck was freshly oiled and lube, cleaned inside and out - ready to head south, eastish to the WEST. Our cargo was simplified by means of the hounds staying at home. It makes a difference when you have someone you can trust - we thank our buddy M.

The week of departure came very fast and rather suddenly for me, the prepared one. I did however manage to print off some GC paperwork to have on hand while traveling. This paperwork does come in handy, but I think we used it 50% of the time. Other than that, I loaded our GC pack with fresh batteries and extra GC gear. The rest I managed to throw together on the fly, which for the most part worked out fair. As per usual momma bear had the majority of the kids gear readied for load out to the limo, snakcs, lunch and breaky for WWIII if need be. Truck gear, murse, clothes, smartphone, glasses. Go time.

We get around the corner, I go to turn left to head south on 881 and I get the ``umm``..Right away, off the track! first 4 gears in 2.3 seconds!

Meanwhile down Hwy63 we go.

Not many geocaches along Hwy63 and really do we want to stop on that highway, nope. Onward after 15 pee breaks towards Athabasca and our first GC. It was a simple GC, but one we could pull up and jump out with the kids right there watching our every move. It was a great cache and we found our first Geocoin. I was excited, so out came the camera, the pencil and cheezes!!! It was a brisk North Eastern Alberta day - back in the limo and warmth!! Log #1 and shortly there after pee # I don't know I've lost track! This is when I announce I'm buying a motorhome (oh good hint, need to contact RV dealer) and then we can make time whilst GC'ing! Stop #2 for Camps Away GC along the highway at a spot we haent been to before. It was really blowing and soggy snow now, typical, and never fails. Bubsy got pointed in the right direcction, and let a yeeehaw when he found the GC. A great cache with good swag in there. Bubsy grabbed a bakagun, and Jr a dinky car! We left some good stuff - a poncho and a keychain. After a few photo's, it was back in the limo and on the slushy hiway! And then this is where it gets blurry as blazing thru some super sloppy winter slush and missing a few turns, we were back on track, heading west on highway 16 west to Jasper. Planned stops in Edson and Hinton, on account of projected pee breaks.

We rolled into Jasper with not much traffic, but heck of a dirty truck. Loaded into the SawRidge Hotel for the night and await Uncle Matt & Auntie Jackie's visit!! We shared some beers n hugs, and of coarse Liam's version of the trip to far, with every detail, at 66rpm. Then it was room service time.

  • Bison Rueben with fries
  • Large Pizza - Bison, bacon, pepperoni, sausage
  • Large Ceasar Salad
  • Bison Chili
  • Alberta Chuck Burger c/w Aged Cheddar & Maple Bacon & Ketchup
  • Deep Fried Mars Bars x 2 = YUMMY YUMMY!!!

Yup, pig out and it was awesome, we all shared and got a taste of it all, cept for 1 mars bar - DADDY ONLY!! ;-)

Jasper - Saturday coming soon.

  1. You should link the caches you do to the geocaching website so we can follow along! You can also add your stat bar to your page, if ya want.
